Beginnings

Sailing through unfamiliar waters...

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”

Ernest Hemingway

Finally I get to grips with this whole blogging thing! As most (if not all) bloggers outs there, I love writing. Sadly though, I really do too much writing of the wrong type: I'm a university student, so I spend most of my time writing notes or essays and I spend the rest of my days reading something which I can then write about for my tutorials (all my other activities do not really involve that much reading or writing). However,it was about time I started on something I really wanted to do.

I say "I" but this blog isn't just about me. In fact, it's hardly about me at all. It exists simply because we (I'll say more about who "we" is in a minute) wanted to make our ferocious debates about the world slightly less about hot air and a little bit more about pen and paper (we didn't quite make it to the paper I'm afraid). Don't expect us to solve the world's problems, we did that last week, we're just throwing  a couple of thoughts out there for anyone to engage with.

We are three university students who used to sit down and chat about our opinions and often never really got to a conclusion. Sadly, the three of us don't get that much of a chance to sit down together and have the chats we used to any more. This blog is a replacements for those cups of tea and those beers which we used to enjoy as we chatted... Happy days!

Anyway, I realise that's not much of an introduction to each of us but it gives you the idea behind this blog: this is where opinions get dropped onto the floor, interests are shared and ideas conflict. It's a very heterogeneous blog, it's a bit of a Frankenstein's Creature made up of lots of different pieces - I hope you don't react to this blog as people did to the Creature! My friends might disagree with me here but you are very welcome to join in any debate we have, sharing ideas is the whole point of the blog. It goes on all over the world and I'm a huge fan of debate - the more ideas get thrown around the better.

A lot of advice for the first post encourages to introduce yourself, say what the blog is about and tell people how they can get involved. Well, you can find out more about the three of us as we go along. The point of this blog is to talk about the world through a different medium to what we are used to - we've decided to get on board a boat and row our way down the river, without seeing where we're going.

For me, this blog is an experience. I love travelling and I look forward to the journey through the minds and thoughts of other people and especially through my own developing thoughts and opinions. Who knows, I might even end up somewhere, or I might end up where I began - life is just full of surprises.

I realise I'm going all arsty on you, I have a habit of doing that. I won't apologise, I like it. My two dear co-bloggers are probably more with their feet on the ground than I am when it comes to writing. However, that's part of the fun: you never know what's going to show up next on this blog!
